MARINE INSURANCE FORUM 2011:
RUSSIA AND CIS
June 23-24, 2011, Renaissance Moscow Hotel
Marine Insurance always was and still remains a unique part of the insurance business – its cornerstone and its classic example.
Some of the topics to be discussed at the Marine Insurance Forum 2011:
- The Federal Target Programme “Civil Marine Technology Development” – how will its implementation impact on the marine insurance market?
- Shipbuilding finance and insurance, including legal aspects of policy registration (builders risk insurance, building contracts and money-back guarantees)
- Russian and British arbitration and legal cases: US$50m was received by Odfjell after its victory over the shipbuilders Sevmash in a Russian court – who’s next??
- P&I: what will change in the working practices of the International P&I Group if the EU Competition Commission rules against it in certain aspects and compels it to revise its pricing policy?
- Worldwide shipbuilding in general and in China in particular:
- FOR: according to the ship brokers Clarkson, there was US$46.1b worth of shipbuilding orders in 2011, as opposed to US$28.2b in 2009. The US Investment Fund The Carlyle Group are launching a joint venture to purchase container, balk and tanker vessels to the sum of almost US$5b. These ships will be built at Chinese dockyards.
- AGAINST: the Chinese market is overheating and some of the dockyards are heading for bankruptcy?!
- The age old curse of piracy – is it here to stay?
- FOR: in five days, seven vessels managed to escape capture thanks to following the Best Management Practices (BMP)
- AGAINST: NATO may reduce the number of military vessels patrolling the Gulf of Aden due to budgetary constraints
- Claims and their resolution according to different types of breakdown. Presentation of the Advanced Propulsion System, which allows, in the event of a main engine breakdown, instead of declaring a General Average, to continue moving at a speed of 3-5 knots to a repair base/safe harbour etc.
